Determination

As someone who has had highs and lows, this is a topic that I do not take lightly. Even though it is defined differently by various people it cannot be ignored or forgotten.

Dictionary.com describes it as, "the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose." Some might define it as never giving up. Others may say it is never giving it. The list goes on and on, but at the end of the day everyone knows it is a necessity.

From media moguls like Oprah & Tyler Perry to Christian figures such as T.D. Jakes and Tony Evans to even historical giants like Martin Luther King Jr. and Barack Obama, every last one of them had to stick things out to reach their goals.

I'm pretty sure there were times when they wanted to throw in the towel, but they did not because it was not worth it. Making it to the finish line not only allowed them to fulfill their purpose, but it encouraged others to do the same.

That is why we have to consider the fact that even though quitting would be easy, it is normally not worth it because it not only harms us, but others who we were inspiring along the way.

A perfect example of that is Jesus Christ. The night that He was captured He went to the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed, pardoning with God to not suffer the crucifixion. However, He ended His plea with, "Not my will but thine will be done," because He realized that what His emotions were telling Him wasn't the priority. Our souls were. (See Matthew 26:39)

Now, if Jesus walked forth in determination when He has to overcome something why shouldn't we, who are made in His image, do the same? It may not always feel good, but it will work for THE GOOD.

I myself have had to press through various things to reach the level I am at right now and I'll have to press through more to continue to climb higher. However, I do not fear that because I know with determination I can and will make it through.

So, the next time you want to throw in the towel remember that with determination you can succeed & make it to what you are  destined to achieve. You just have to make up your mind to do it. The choice is yours.
