For the majority of us, we wish to be able to fulfill our dreams. Whether it is being a famous actor, possibly opening your own business, or maybe even being a pastor, you have something that has been in your mind for your future.
Personally, mine has become writing. It took time for me to shift my dream a bit to match up with God’s plans, but we’ll hit on that next week.
Now, these dreams or desires normally have a strong power. They pull your choice of entertainment, behavior, even where your money is spent. We think about all of these things, but as I've gotten older I have noticed that not as many of us consider how to plan or set-up for it.
You hear about plenty of young boys wanting to be a professional athlete, yet all they play is video games. You may see a good number of women wanting to be singers, but not as many enroll in an arts school. You even witness people wanting to enter politics, but refusing to research those who have truly made a difference.
Basically it's all about the glory, but no one wants to work on writing their story. Preparation seems to be the last thing anyone thinks about.
Recently, I participated in a vendor's event for the first time representing my book, "Bigger Than Me". I was so excited & determined that I went directly to my new job from there so I did not have to cancel. However, I failed to fully plan or prepare for the morning of. As a result, instead of arriving early, as I had expected, I got there about 3 minutes late.
Thankfully, due to my having done a couple of events prior & my mother being there to help me run the table I was able to get my layout & my attitude in check.
Now, this all could have been avoided if I'd considered all of the details. As much as some of us may think doing that is negative, it is positive if used correctly.
In Proverbs 24:27 Solomon even states, “Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house.” (NLT)
Believing in yourself and having faith in what God has for you is great, but doing some work and preparation is necessary as well. Saying you believe His will won't bring you, but so far if you don't show true trust through action, and preparation is one of them.
So, as you move forth in your journey and purpose remember to show your obedience and your faith by getting ready for what God has for you. That way, once it reaches you, rather than catch you off guard you will be willing and able to fulfill what this saith the Lord.
