Revolution (In Honor of Black History Month)

Marching feet as steady as African drums.

War cries of hymns & chants of people trying to overcome.

Protestors with boards and signs a raised all on one accord

trying to start a revolution that will shift our world.

Entire cities a blaze with fires of frustration and anger

that have built up over the years due to oppression of the soul.

Communities attempting to keep their youth out of the reach of danger,

while living in a system corrupted since the days of old.

A system of the haves and have nots.

A country divided by races such as black and white.

Built on the backs of enslaved people

who hope they will soon reap a reward for fighting the good fight.

Marching feet as steady as African drums.

War cries of hymns & chants of people trying to overcome.

Protestors with boards and signs a raised all on one accord

trying to start a revolution that will shift our world.

A superpower that is divided at its very core.

Separated by the color of one’s skin. Labeled threat or victim.

Tarnished by years of hatred, segregation, and much, much more.

A country that struggles to acknowledge the blood shed by those of brown skin.

We need answers! We deserve to know why!

Other than our brown skin what have we done to make other’s frown.

Equality is our hearts desire.

Our yearning acts as the fuel to our fire.

Hopefully one day we can burn with love and joy for the evening of the playing field,

but until then we will continue to have a strong will and,

March with feet as steady as African drums.

Sing war cries of hymns & chants of people trying to overcome.

Protest with boards and signs a raised all on one accord

still trying to start a revolution that will shift our world.
