(W/ the year soon coming to a close, I wanted to have a quick throwback moment & look at one of my fav poems of 2019.)
Sharp to the touch & bright.
Able to bring discomfort & pain.
Made to illuminate the difference between wrong & right.
Known by everyone from Paul and Jesus.
From me to you.
Annoyingly present when you’re going through.
I’m talking about thorns,
mentioned in 2 Corinthians by the Apostle Paul
as he prayed for them to be removed.
I’m discussing those things that don’t seem to go away no matter what you do.
I’m talking about your naysayers, your haters, & your “friends”.
All the trials that never reach a decision. The journeys that never end.
Those things that cause the tears no one sees
and leads to those unheard cries.
Those struggles that make you want to lose hope.
That take away your sleep at night.
I talk about them because I know them
and I’ve had my fair share of them too.
As a result, I know what I’m about to say is true.
Don’t be afraid of your thoughts
and don’t let them steal your peace.
Because God is going to work it all out.
Just you wait-and-see.
Christ will not leave or forsake you.
Like Paul said, His grace is sufficient for you & me.
He will turn those thorns in your side into a crown
like he did Jesus on Calvary.
Like our Savior you will rise up with all power & victory.
So wipe your tears.
Don’t weep & mourn.
Because you have power over your thorns.
(As we prepare to go into the New Year & decade, know that through Christ you have power over all of your thorns. They will not control you in 2020 unless you let them.)
